About Cyrus Tetteh
Only In Detroit Author and Photographer Cyrus Tetteh is a native Detroiter and University of Michigan-Ann Arbor alumnus. He has been a professional photographer since 2017, currently working for the City of Detroit’s Media Department where he documents Mayor Mike Duggan’s movements as well as Detroit City Council Members’ activities throughout the City.
Through his job and his photography vocation, Tetteh has seen greatness and beauty in the ordinary daily lives of Detroiters. He’s also witnessed and photographed some of the Motor City's most iconic moments and celebrated figures in recent history. Tetteh’s book Only In Detroit captures those moments for posterity.
The book, a labor of love, is the antithesis of the once popular ‘ruin porn’ produced by photographers who swooped into the City during Detroit’s darkest days and took photos of areas in deep decline. By contrast, Tetteh’s art is vivid and filled with life. His use of color and composition captures his subjects in the most honest and captivating ways. His is a vision of hope.

The Detroit Metro Times featured Cyrus Tetteh’s work - Respect - in it story on Detroit’s Annual Detroit Month of Design kicks off in September. The photograph is part of a collection in Tetteh’s new book - Only In Detroit.
Design Core Detroit chronicled the opening reception of Cyrus Tetteh’s photography exhibit featuring photos all shot in Detroit. His work illuminates some of the city’s most authentic people and moments in recent history.
